Armenian Street in George Town, Penang is not just all about street arts. Along the one-way street is a "Tua Pek Kong" Chinese Temple which is one of our favorite spots in town. Built in 1850's, the temple is simply called "Hock Teik Cheng Sin" - the formal name for "Tua Pek Kong". Inside the building houses four affiliated societies, namely Tong Kheng Seah, Poh Hock Seah, Cheng Hoe Seah, and Hokkien Kongsi. It used to be a headquarter of a secret society called Kean Teik Tong. Zheng He (1371-1433/1435) was initially known as Ma He and was born in Kunyang, Yunnan. As a Muslim, he was a well-known mariner, explorer, diplomat, and fleet admiral during China's early Ming dynasty. He was given surname "Zheng" due to contribution to Zhengzhou. Zheng He was also known as "Sanbao" during the time of service in the household of the Prince of Yan as a Eunuch. This name was a reference to the Three Jewels (triratna) in Buddhism. His famous deeds being seven expeditions to the "Western" or Indian Ocean. (Reference: Wikipedia)

Built in year 1972, Hean Boo Thean 玄母殿 (GPS: 5.40944,100.33833) was initially a wooden floating Chinese temple in reclamation area of Weld Quay, George Town, Penang. Fearing the corrosion by salt water, the Chinese temple was completely rebuilt using bricks and cements. It is one of our favorite Chinese temples in Penang.

Established since Mar 1986, Penang Butterfly Farm was recently rebuilt and rebranded. Our last visit to Butterfly Farm at Teluk Bahang, Penang is probably during primary school year from a school trip. The place is far from George Town and needs about an hour to reach there. We recently re-visited this Penang attraction under the name Entopia.

Balik Pulau at the west side of Penang island is a great place for weekend escape and sightseeing. We frequently visited it for the famous Balik Pulau laksa, durian, sheep farm, fisherman village and seafood to name a few. Recently, we re-visited it again for a newly launched Botanica Mansion in Bandar Baru Air Putih.
